Size is in the eye of the beholder - I've got 19's and they don't look small to me - in fact I think they would look really daft any bigger.

However, some of the more modern (nicer) styles don't look so 'brash' and could could take an extra inch.

I saw an M5 yesterday and the wheels did look pukka - specially the drilled out brake discs (v cool)

Your correct regarding "in the eye of the beholder." What do you mean by "pukka"? Personally I like the wheels on the M5 and they don't look too audacious. That is one of the reasons I'm leaning towards 19's.

I have 19's with a huge lip in the back, and I kinda regret it, it looks dinky. I think I will be switching to 20's with no lip or maybe a little. The 19's look alright, but just a little too small IMO. The E60 has a pretty big chassis and the 20's look like they fit better.

I thought Cidair's 20's look huge on his M5, but the more I look at it the more I like 21's. But I wouldn't put them on my car. I saw 22's on a white 645 (car for sale on ebay) and it looked wicked, and I believe it was lowered a little.
if u get 20's you will have a problem with rubbing..then you gonna have to roll your fenders according to some people here who got 20's in their car...plus the biger the rims the thinner the tires the less air in it ....gives it a more rougher ride...

I feel that 19" wheels fit the arches well enough. As some of the other posters have commented, stick with OEM if possible. Here is a pic of my E60 with 19" OEM's. However may not look big enough if you are considering 21" rims -

I think the 19" wheels look too small with the e60's large wheel wells. These are the best size, however, for performance. I also think 21" is the biggest you should go, but 20" is just right for this car (regardless of offset/lip).

I think 19's look great on the e60. I have seen a lot of nice ones on this site. I'm going for 20's only because if I'm going to spend $4K+ on wheels, may as well get 20's. From what I've read, going from RF 18's to Non RF 19 or 20s will be a huge improvement in ride anyway.

Hopefully in another few weeks, I'll be able to prove this perception first hand!

Not true. When I went from 18" RF's to 19" non RF's the ride was similar. I have sat in an E60 with 18" non RF's and the ride was better than with my 19's. If you go to 20"+ expect the ride to worsen.

I've looked through the gallery and IMHO 20's do look like they fit the wheel well better than the 19's. Granted the ride will be harsher. But how "harsh" is the question I'm hoping someone can answer for me.

This car is a clear example of 19s with no lip and looking GOOD

Even step-up lip HRE 20s can look smaller too but obviously if your spending 6 grand for wheels I would HOPE you are not worried about size as much as quality or ride.

If you want them to look big then anyone can buy some 2k dinky 20inch giovanna wheels or something.

Bottom line: 19s will GENERALLY have a smoother ride and feel more stock than 20s. Sounds like you are not concerned about size so I would do 19s and play it safe.
