18", 19" or 20" wheels?

I've been contemplating new wheels lately.
I currently have the stock powder coated 18" 124's which I really like, but I also like the look of 19"s and 20"s. Is there any performance downsides and/or upsides to moving to a 19" or 20" wheel?
Am I giving anything up for the look?
Will moving to a lighter 19" and or 20" wheel increase performance?
Should I just keep my 18"s and dump the RFT's?
One thing I do not want to do is give up any bit of performance for the look of my car. I drive my car hard and I've always been under the impression that I would have to be more careful with 20"s (don't know why I feel that way, I just do)
Thoughts?

Depending on what wheels you go with it will increase the performance as it will be lighter.

and I drive the living crap out of it...

I think if you drive on roads as smooth as a baby's bottom and not like an old hag's wrinkled belly then 30 or 35 aspect tires on 20" wheels would work for you. How is the replacement or wheel repair and tire business out there??

20" is the way to go, but for more of a "perfomance" stand point I would go with the 19".

In regards to weight, anything else out there as light as the DINAN 19"s?
So many choices out there. Rads R10's, Breyton Race, DINAN's, I love them all. This site costs me money every time I logon, and I've been logging on a lot lately!

Just think of it this way, you are lightening up your wallet to decrease the weight of your e60 when you are driving it...making you go even faster GL with your wheel decision...
