had this avin unit in for a few weeks now. I think it works great! Wireless android auto+carplay, bluetooth audio, android apps, screen mirroring (not yet tested), etc.
My wagon is a 2010 that came without nav so had the default 6.5" screen -- but still has the updated iDrive controller.
big boost and temp gauges using the wireless mhd adapter. My only complaint is the screen has a decent amount of glare in direct sunlight. Might try and see if there's a screen cover for that.
I still haven't done the backup camera install -- haven't seen any good directions on how to tap these wires into the reverse light fuse yet.

I'm not sure about the capabilities of your deck, but if you check, it should have a trigger wire that becomes active when you put the car in reverse. It gets that info from the can bus its plugged into. If not, the back up reverse light wire is right there on the right rear light harness . . .
I have had 3 different units in my E61 and all of them detected reverse automatically through the Can Bus or through the PDC being activated. I have a stick shift and my car originally came without navigation. My first unit was an Avin so I would hope yours could pick up automatically that it is in reverse. My Avin also had a reverse trigger wire that I could hook up to my reverse camera.

Do they use some kind of brackets to hold the touch display? I was considering an original touch screen for an already retrofitted NBT EVO on my LCI E60

yeah it's a clip mechanism behind the tablet -- you slide into the slot and then push down to stay in place
there's an extension plate that bolts into the original two (three?) holes holding the stock nav unit in place. there's a pic of it and a side view on their website

I also have the complete EVO EVO NBT, but I was debating just installing it in the factory E60 location. Didn't want anything sticking up on the dash.
