Anyone know if i replace my Catalytic with straight pipes, is there a way to trick the computer for the Engine light to come on.

I know for sure that my G35 i had straight pipes on and my check engine light came on. The G forums told me to buy this extension that you screw on the straight pipe to trick the ECU.

It sounds like they're talking about tricking the O2 sensors (lambda probes). I'm pretty sure there are also O2 sensors after the cats, so if you remove the cats, then those O2 sensors will throw the CEL as they sense the "dirty" exhaust. You can try buying O2 simulators that'll pass off the correct message to the ECU, or you can try doing something like this -

Jet190rs, Thanks for that info.... I thought that would work, just making sure since it's a totally different car.

You mean to come off right?

You can try contacting the various BMW tuners to see if they have software that'll turn CEL off.

removing cats and adding straight pipe usually doesn't make the engine light come on. must be something else. I remember a while back the engine light came on for my car and wouldnt go away. Service advisor told me that the E60s, when the gas cap is not fully tightened, engine light will come on and it will take 20 startups till it goes away
