Has anyone installed an '07/'08 5 series gear selector onto an earlier model, like an '06? I really like the way they look, but I'm not sure if it would fit/work correctly, as the shifter is fully electrical, whereas previous models are mechanical/electical.
Any help/advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

that selector cannot be retro fitted as far as what i have seen on here. Maybe someone else has done this and not posted it as of yet???
Can someone with more knowledge on this subject than I possess please shed some light on this? Thanks!

I think the new shifter is electronic. The old shifter is manual. Sort of like how the gas pedals used to have a cable attached to the throttle, now it is just an electronic box stuck to the floor.

I seem to recall somebody around here doing this mod, I think it was an "M" shifter...

If your looking to upgrade the shifter as the stock is really boring, I put in the E39 solid aluminum as it fits up to 05 E60 , also changed the i drive and put in the M5 as it is milled form one piece of alloy and matches up nice.
Also the E39 shifter weighs about 3 lbs and you can use it as a club !
