My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
I bet it has to do with waht the ripping program uses as the file name. I have only used windows media player and I get only two results
If I am connected to the net when I initally rip the cd I get
01 Song Name (just as the song anme appears on the tag)
If I am not connected to the internet it is saved as 01 Track1, 02 Track2 etc.
I always have to edit the file name - at least to remove the nukmber before the name, and sometimes I rename the song..
I have not experience only being able to use 8 characters - can make the anme as long as I want - and it accepets spaces also and other punctuation
Keep working and experimenting - I finally got it to work the way I want - and look the way I want
Now I want to see if I can rip at 128 (currently used 192) and still get the car to read it
Aside - looknig at it the person with Queen is also in a file titled 80's and it appears you ahve no files on your cd - maybe this makes a difference?

My Ride: BMW 525d - Sapphire black - Nav Pro - PDC - Bluetooth
IT WORKS !!!
Now it was not working with Nero 7 Premium I was trying, so I switched back to Nero 6.6.0.18.
Second, you still have to pay attention to burning options :
1. Data CD
2. No Multisession
3. Under ISO, I know that the following works :
Data Mode : Mode 2/XA
File System : ISO 9660+Joliet
Filename length (ISO) : Max of 31 characters (Level 2)
Character set (ISO) : ASCII [THIS ONE SOLVE READABILITY]
Allow path depth of more than 8 directories
Allow more than 255 characters in a path
Allow more than 64 characters for Joliet Names
Et voil? !
Thanks for all the help. Cheers!

My Ride: 14th Oct 05 delivery, 525d SE Silver Grey, Black Dakota, Dark Poplar, Adaptive Xenon, Prof Radio, Prof Nav, 6 CD Changer, BT, Advanced A/C, Electric Seats, Heated Front Seats, Thru Load/Ski Bag
On Nav Pro, only MP3 ID3v1 tags seem to be displayed, not ID3v2 tags.
I have been using MP3/Tag Studio 3.5 shareware to synchronise the information between ID3 v1 & v2.
Artist and Track details are shown for the track that is currently playing, but the other tracks are in the 8.3 format.
Maybe Nav Pro will have an update in the future to display details on non playing tracks (as per Business Nav systems).
The grass is always greener the other side of the fence !!!.

From what I gathered in some other posts, the issue lies in whether is pronav or business nav. With the latter, you get the full name files, but with pronav, it's truncated - which is what you're getting. It's apparently due to memory demands on pronav with having to display full map (with business nav, you only get arrows and no maps). So to optimise memory usage on pronav, BMW must have designed the MP3 display that way.
Try doing some more searches on this subject, and you'll get more details and screen shots.
Does it show full filenames for all displayed songs or just the one currently playing?
You have pronav right and not business nav?

I can't tell from your image whether or not yours is "right justifying" the song or folder title that is playing - I've reported here that mine does this, and left justifies the other titles. I can also tell from the fact that playing songs right justify, that the car is truncating the song title after it hits a certain length, but I haven't tried to figure out how many characters. My car was delivered in April 05 with MP3 functionality. First out of the gate so to speak, I suppose the code's behavior might have been altered since then.

Wait a second for the current song that it is playing:
If I uncheck 'view details (in the idrive) I see your screen: (picture 1)
