Yet another fuel pump issue possibly?
Good day fellow humans! Trust me, i have searched as much as i could but unfortunately i didn't find some of the info i need. Car is a 2008 528xi
I will start with my issue. It started in December of 2014, no jokes, my car has been down for that long. It started as a no start and i thought it was a blown fuse of some sort because i had just installed a stereo system the previous day. Flash forward to last week, i removed the starter and it was bad, so this whole time it was a faulty starter that just coincidentally went bad after my system install. I went ahead and installed the starter, and found out my batter has been dead for who knows how long. I purchase a new battery, go to start the car and well, just my luck, key is lost. I ordered a replacement key from the dealer, get home happy yesterday to finally start my car and voila, cranks but does not start, Saw on idrive what seemed to flash a fuel pump issue. Before i dig into this further and replace any unnecessary parts. Can someone tell me which colors on the fuel pump connector to check with a volt meter and what voltage should be while cranking?
Will removing my fuel line have caused an issue? I removed the line at the rails to remove the intake manifold so i could reach the starter. Any and all help i greatly appreciated!

Did you see if the pump was priming first. I would try to prime it since i broke the lines. Is there pressure on the fuel rail? If not prime and see if it creates pressure once it does it should start up. Also how long was the car sitting? If it has been sitting since 2014 the gas is bad and needs to be drained out and service done to it.

If the car has been sitting for a year then I would not have tried to start it with the old gas. It needs to be drain out. Then I would clean the fuel system which can be done at home with some sea foam or what ever you prefer to use. Cleaning the injectors is one of your focus points. Once you clean the system prime the pump to get the fuel through the system. Then you should be able to start the car. It will not start immediately. I work on an e60 that was sitting for a while and it took me about 30 mins to start it. Also I would change the oil

If you do not have much in there you are fine just put 5 gallons in. But if you have over a half of tank cyphen some out. The key is to get the fuel good again and if you have too much old fuel in the new fuel added will do no good.
It will take you a while to get it started but once it starts keep your foot on the gas to burn the old fuel and get the new fuel in the line. Do it for about 5 to 10 mins and then just let it run. Once you get it running go to advance and get you a bottle of seafoam and put 1/2 in the tank with it full. That will clean the system out and the cheapest route to go.
