Dr. D,
Thanks for the tip on the leveling screw. I'll look around and see if I find something obvious. I'm also compiling a list of nagging little things that I'll ask the dealer to take care of, and getting close now to making it worth the hassle of dropping the car off for an overnight stay in the shop. If there's an adjustment screw (and there must be SOME way for a dealer to make an adjustment), then I'll be interested in their excuse for why they can't make an adjustment.
I'll be especially interested in hearing from you when you get your 530. I'm really surprised at the few replies from people who said "no problem." Either their's are set higher, or they have totally different expectations. These are the worst headlights (low beam only -- high beams are great!) I've ever encountered.

as a follow-up,
I borrowed an E60 for an extended test drive a few weeks back. it had bi-xenons but not active lights.......the low beam was better than the mini xenons and I really found no fault with them, However..when I switched on the full beams....it was like driving in daylight, they were fantastic...this may make the dipped beams seem less powerful as high beams are so so so much better than dipped (unless they are shining at you!)

No light focusing/adjustment problem here. Love the Adaptive lighting system.

I fully agree with Doctor Diesel
If you press towards you the leverage in order to have a "spot high beam" light is not so bright and powerful, but as you know in that case are not xenon lamp but normal filament high beam.
I hope you will understand my very poor english.

not badly said, which sounds like it means (if I may....)-
If you pull the high-beam stalk toward you in order to flash the high beam, the light is not as bright and powerful since that mode uses a normal filament bulb instead of the xenon bulbs.

I thought they were bi-xenon.....both low and high beams being hid xenon.
