I'm on my 3rd in 5 years. I love the "solid" feel of the BMW. I've driven everything and nothing feels the same. The japanes cars feel sloppy but the ride quality is excellent. The MB just doesn't do it for me aside from the 63's and all I hear is horror stories about Audi from the various dealers I service. BMW is a perfect in its simplicity. The interior are minimalist but in true German tradition form follows function and with the e60 I feel they came up with a perfect car. I would absolutely buy again. Also how can you leave out the fact that when something breaks I drop the car off and say "fix it". They give me a loaner and there is no extra charges or worries. You take a benz in for repair you never leave without dropping a grand.(exagerating of course)

If I'm lucky to buy another luxury/sport car..., I'll buy another BMW in a heartbeat! Everything else is just too civilized...

BMWs are nice, but the electronics are worrisome and the runflat tires, with no full-size spare, diminish your confidence that you could take a long trip without incident. I have a 1999 Lexus GS400 with a 4 liter V8 that is still smooth as silk after 133k mi. I intended to sell it after acquiring my bimmer, but I can't bring myself to part with it.

First of all, new gearbox after 40k miles ? Honestly, what you've done to the car ??
I have quite abit of experience with japanese cars, especially hondas. All japanese cars have either too much understeer or are plain boring. Yes i agree the sport versions of them are quite good, but we're talking about 1 model in the whole range..
The japanese are all for, nothing wasted, nothing overdone (when non mechanical) and nothing too luxurious (exception of lexus of course) . The sound proofing is pretty poor on hondas -and believe me i've driven them all- , the material choice and quality is plainly bad and unsubstansial, the plastics are poor quality. The paint they're using is so thin you can lick it away. The steel they're using is adequate but very lightweight . You think you're in a tin can
I've said it before and say it again. The japanese make reliable mechanicaly cars for people that want to go from A to B and that's it.
