Worn Track Rod Ends
#1
My E60 just fail the NCT for Worn Track Rod Ends.
Just Rang a BMW Dealer and they charge ?850 for replacing them. The parts are less than ?100!!!
Is there really alot of labour involved in replacing these? That price seem very high.

Replacing them is not very complicated and a good BMW indy should save you some labor costs. However, after installation be sure to have a wheel alignment check (and id your car has active steering I think a BMW place is the best for that).

I did mine the other day and it took 15 minutes for both sides. I have Active Steering.
VERY easy....of course you have to get an alignment afterwards......you can get it aligned closely but not perfect. Use a dab of paint to mark the threads and let it dry. Trick is, to loosen the nut that joins the rods together. JUST enough to break the tension. Unscrew the ball joint from the wheel carrier. You can wiggle the ball joint out of the wheel carrier and then uncrew the outer tie rod end out of the inner tie rod. Screw the new one in all the way to the nut to where it was before you took the old one off. Should not be TiGHTENED AT THIS POINT. Put the ball joint back in the wheel carrier. Bolt it down and then go back to the nut that joins the two and tighten the nut. Your paint marks should line up.
Re-initialize your Active Steering (may not need to) but definitely do before you do alignment.
Maybe you won't notice a difference in alignment. If you need one, find a Tires Plus (most carry the Hunter Lazer alignment) do an alignment.
7/8" or 3/4" cresent wrench (forgot which one)
T40 torx bit (i think) socket ...just get a set.
