Unable to read mp3 disk ?
Hello all,
Got a 2005 535d Sport - with professional sat nav . Just had it enabled at the dealer to read mp3 disk and had latest progman update for 'tranny slam'. After burning various disks with different settings still get 'unsupported media' message !!!!
Followed all of Lomag's settings from this forum. Using Imation CD-R disks.Tried with Windows XP , now using Nero 8 burning software - (not express) under CD-ROM(ISO).
Have checked the disks and they run on a computer OK.
Anybody any ideas ?????- it's getting really annoying !!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated .
Thanks.

Did the dealer upgrade the software or just enable MP3? If so, to a recent level I presume? Also, I assume you are trying the CD slot? Although I think the DVD slot does MP3 as well.
I used ITunes to create an MP3 CD and it worked fine.

Have recently, last week, been through this torture and have heaps of coasters to prove it. I assume you are selecting Nero Burning ROM and then selecting Make CD ROM (ISO) option.

I have been successful using nero smartstart then selecting make data cd. And, this works. Not sure if there is any material difference between methods.

Also, the guide from Lomag does not mention that the MP3 has to be in a specific format (MPEG1 Layer3), you may be using AAC (like I did at first) which is MPEG4.

Thanks for reply, dealer upgraded the software(think it is most recent ) and enabled mp3. Yes, in the CD slot above dvd. I will try Itunes next and see how I get on.
Cheers.

Yep, using CD ROM(ISO) option. Tried nero smartstart - data cd and still unreadable ???? Checked file extension in explorer of burnt files and definitely shown as MP3 format ????
Will try Itunes next , not sure what else I can try - can't move for coasters !!!!!
Thanks.

Been there.

As mentioned there are a myriad of MP3 files formats and our CD player is picky. To see what format of MP3 file you have you will need to get a program that will read the MP3 file and tell you it's format. The one I use is WINAMP see example below.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen the MP3 burning topic in the FAQ, here it is:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=24018

(And bullrun16, now that your car is updated, you can burn an MP3 DVD and play it in the nav slot if you have professional navigation (you just won't be able to actively navigate while listening to the disc in that slot...)
