I have a 2008 535i automatic, awesome condition, all maintenance done etc. It’s cold for Dallas, but I ran to store today, was in there 20 minutes or so, and when I went to back out, car won’t go into reverse. It automatically goes back to P. Tried Drive - no luck there either. After about an hour of dicking with it, Reverse finally engaged and I was able to back out of parking space, crossed my fingers and put in to drive - it worked - and I limped home. Scanned it with Carly and here's what I got for errors - 4F97,4F84,4F82 and 507B. Put on battery tender overnight – figured I wouldn’t be driving for a while. Just for kicks, I started car this morning and it goes into all gears….weird. I will note that I replaced battery Dec. 2017 and registered battery using Carly app. Not sure if that’s relevant, but who knows?

all of your 4FXX faults are ratio monitoring codes. When was the last time your transmission was serviced?

Fixed it, was the mechatronics to transmission seal. Transmission bridge seal. All is good now.

Did the seal fail on its own?

How many miles if you don't mind me asking?

108k miles. Seal failed on its own. Apparently developed crack and was slow, slow, dripping fluid until car symptoms began.
