Hello everybody!

My last winter was not so good because i stayed with the 135M Goodyear summer RF tires but i was lucky cuz we had only a few real snowstorms when indeed my car was garaged. Even so, with a weak winter, i had trouble with traction obviously. I decided for this winter to change to a winter ste-up.
Now the problem is that i dunno what to do, some say it's better to have the samllest possible rim and pretty much the cheapest, that gives the biggest tire wall. Considering this i might change to style 115 (134 are so damn ugly). A 16" rim with the most narrow tire combination might be perfect.
On the other hand i intend to go to 20" exclusive for summer set-up. So i could change the tires from my 18" 135M with winter tires. But then, i'd have to change back to my original RF tires for the spring and fall and i fear that all this changing tires might hurt the rims cuz i don't think we have so good tire shops here to leave the rims unscratched after all this. And i understood that on 18" rims it's not recommanded to go with 225 tires (that's the target width for winter or even less).

What would you do? Style 115 look ok..ummm?

Thanks!

You can't use a 16" rim on a 535d, as it will not clear the brakes. Minimum would be 17". I put winters on my 135's and just leave them on. I use other wheel/tyre combo during the summer.

Ok so it's cleared then.
Thanx!

Lateredit: Do you think it's possible even with speedo alteration, to use 225/smth on the 135M rims? 225/55? Thanx!

Fact!

!7" min for a 535dA (see standard wheel setup).

225/50's should be available, no tramlinging but not that good traction either.

The winter tyres on my 135 rims are 225/45/18 which is exact conversion size for the 245/40 runflat summers. I chose 225 for slightly better ability to cut through slush and water.
Already drove them all last winter and perfectly fine. They will be going on again tomorrow

Though the winter tyres aren't runflat what are the implications on tyre pressure monitoring.

Can this be switched off in some way?

Thats my question, too. I have the new sensors now on my new car, but have perfectly fine winter wheels/tires from my old car. I am ready to change the tires this week. Will the car bitch at me every time I turn it on? Can I disable the tire pressure warning system somehow? I can live without the TPM. I can check the tire pressure often and the winter tires are RTFs.

if I were you I would buy some really nice winter tires for your 135 rims.
And then in the summer time go for the whole new 20".
IMHO the most reasonable and economical solution in your case.
if you say you do not have constant snow over the winter the 135 rims will be just fine with some very nice winter tires.... I run 245 wide winter tires as well and we have much more serious winters then you

Thank you Peter for your input. As always your comments are apreciated

BTW, what winter tires do you have? I heard Dunlop M3s are one of the best. I have those on my Passat 4 motion and they work great, but i don't have experience with other winter tires.

Exactly

But hmm doesn't a 245/40 tire have a 98mm sidewall and a 225/45 a 101.25mm one? Or this is just neglectable...
