here in Canada most traditional block heaters don't have an on or off people just plug in at night or during work and it basically runs all night or all day long. Some parkades will cycle there outlets to only turn on for 1 hr every 3 hrs or so.
Same thing here.

Defa: Link here.

Engine block heater and a inner extension cost around 550 Euro (what I paid incl. inst.)

A decent 1200 - 1400 W cabin heater cost some 150 Euros.

My '86 524TD had a plug-in integrated heater that warmed the diesel fuel. It permitted easy starts, even when parked outside in zero degree weather. I used synthetic oil even back then (switched to a lighter weight oil for winter months) so thickened oil was never a concern. A fully charged battery is a necessity - so if I were concerned about outside temperatures I'd use a battery tender to make sure it was up to the task of a cold morning start.

As for gasoline engines - jelling fuel shouldn't be a problem except in extreme climates. So, IMHO, engine block heaters are not as necessary. Idling an engine until it warms up = a waste of gasoline and increased pollution.

These are 230 V systems, I suppose you have the 110 V.

I find it hard to understand that Canada wouldn't sell similar systems???

Check this out then: http://www.webasto.us/am/en/am_auto_heaters.html

Interesting product but i wasn't looking to spend $2000, I wonder how much it would cost to buy the defa Warmup and ship it to Canada?

I don't understand why there are so many options available overseas and nothing for North America.

Still nothing? That is really weird .
Have you done only internet searching, or have you visited in shops?

Edit: Have you checked out this: Fuelinjection.com

Edit2: Canadian Tire sells some of their products: ZeroStart™ Super Heat Magnet

Edit3: Canadian Tire sells some Polar Pad Heaters too.
