When the mirrors fold they quite often fail to 'stop' and squeal for about 5 seconds... 
Also, when reversing and the passenger side dips it lowers too much to be really useful!
Anyone else?

. but i do also think that the passenger side mirror dips too low when reversing. it was like this in my previous e39, too :'(. i think the one in a m.benz is more useful.

it's a bit useful in parallel parking so that i won't hit the curb. or when reverse into a stall that there is no other car next to you. then you need to see the line.

I have the same squeling sound when they are folded in. The first time I thought a cat got stuck between one of the mirrors.. Very anoying and irritating sound..

I find the dipping function can be a real pain in the a** as it leaves you completely blind down the passenger side of the car. As others have said it's ok for judging the kerb but it goes so low that you've most likely hit the kerb with your rear wheel as the mirror only shows you the ground between the two doors.
I'm not sure who programmed this much mirror travel in BMW's technical department but they ought to rethink it :thumbsdown:

I suspect that the squealing is a result of the folding motor hitting the limit. I am afraid that prolong use of the folding function will one day break the motor, thus I don't fold it any more.
