My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

Hey all I've done some searching and found multiple E39 posts on how to fix a leaking windshield reservoir, but nothing specific to the E60. I'm hoping I have a lose supply line or rotten rubber, I mean o-ring. Something along those lines I'm crossing my finger for... Has anyone worked on replacing or has had a leaking reservoir they've repaired? Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

_Jay

Here is where it is located, in case you needed to know. Its in front of the left tire. Yellowish container in my pic. Picture is of a 2008 535i.

Lets just hope I don't have to remove that much paneling to get to it :-)

Seriously though, what's up with your 535?

Below is a copy of my post, "Do you think this will buff out?" from Jan 15, 2010. Car is back and in incredible shape. The front bumper. rear door, mirror were all repainted. The front wheel well, front fender, front door skin and rear wheel rim were all replaced. As well, the entire left side rear suspension was replaced. Final cost was $14,125 CDN and two weeks without my car.

I was eastbound (Toronto's Hwy 401) in an exit lane just before an exit ramp. Three live lanes to my left travelling at 100km/hr+ (65mph). Closest lane (#3) had a red minivan that apparently lost control on a bright sunny dry day and ended up hitting me hard in the left rear side bumper and left rear wheel. A perfect hit that sent me spinning 360 degrees out of my lane across live lanes two and three. My left front fender smashed into the right rear bumper of a small silver SUV. The impact stopped my forward spin across the live lanes (2 & 3). Car still running so drove to the side of the road.
Driver of minivan went to hospital by ambulance, her truck was towed away. Small SUV driver was upset and her truck was towed as well. My wife and I were totally unhurt and with permission I drove myself to the auto body shop.

Despite our double hit we were both fine and we are convinced the car was a large part of it. Comfort seats and seat belt tensioners pulled us into the seats. Cop told me I saved our bacon by steering in the correct direction after the initial hit and then braked at the perfect time when we were sliding backward at high speed toward the guardrail. He was surprised I drove the car off the road before we were hit broadside by oncoming traffic.

My reservoir has a leak as well. You don't need to remove any body paneling to get to the reservoir... all you do is remove the wheel and wheel well which is held in by a few hex screws, I believe. The wheel well then peels back and voilá you have access.

Gilgorm's picture is worth a thousand words! On an '04 I would just have a new reservoir ready for replacement. Less than $50 from RealOEM
or one of our contributing vendors.

I had the same problem, still under warranty so took it to the dealer, turned out to be the windshield washer fluid pump that was leaking.

Just for clarification my car does NOT have headlight washers so has the M4 pump as described. Sorry no pics of that side of car.
