Greetings Fellow E60er's,
has anyone experienced this problem my car was parked in my driveway, when i got into it the next morning i had a crack on my windshield starting from the passenger side support beam..THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN OF IMPACT...but it was very very hot here in Los Angeles, OVER 100 F..could this be the cause...i hope this is going to be covered by my warranty....
thanks in advance,
HARTGE E60

If there is no impact and it is a clear stress fracture it is covered.
A common problem, unfortunately...
Your dealer will probably try to tell you it is NOT a stress fracture and it is an impact, and your insurance needs to cover it. You know better, since the car was parked when it happened. Convince him and let him show you a clear point of the impact if he starts to BS you.

yup yup....i got in my car one morning 5 months new....pulled outta the garage and notice the SAME stress fracture...stemming from passenger pillar outward...
VERY common as i found here on the forum and the dealership was cool about it...
they basically said as long as anywhere on the crack there was no obvious sign of any impact having occurred they would cover it under warranty...and they did...
i know how much better it felt to read that i wasn't alone when it happened to me...
cheers..

OMG! This happened to me tonight!!
My car was in the dearlership for some warranty repairs. To make a long story short, they gave me a 525i as loaner and I ended up keeping it overnight becasue they couldn't finish the jobs before 4PM.
Tonight I was playing with the rear-view mirror in the loaner car and the whole winshield cracked right in front of my eyes! The crack started from the mounting post for the mirror, and spreaded all over the windshield! This scared the daylight out of me! I will bring it back first thing in the morning and insist they will repair it underwarrty instead of charging me!
The car has less than 1300km on the odometer.

Tough to tell from those pics but that looks (and has spread) like an impact fracture.

I always been concerned about the mounting point. At first, I though my windshield was chipped at that exact point. But, I later decided not. So far so good though. I hope my luck holds.

Sorry to say Blah, but that seems like an impact.
But as fellow members said, there's also a lot windsceens
broken, of what I have seen, in E60's with great torgue.
I have noticed overhere some 530d's with cracked windscreen.
In my point of experience, the soft aluminum helpfront frame boltet to the
"fire wall" chassi, and the enigine which uses magnesium bolts (which brake
on twist), connected to a (too) soft chassi (problems with the sqeeking door gaskets)
could easily be the cause for the windows to brake.
Iceman?

My comments (Sorry, I messed up the "quote" thing)
Happened to me and that is exactly what the dealer said. I had to go through my insurance, luckily I did not have to pay deductible for the windshield coverage. Had lots of trouble to get the insurance to buy into replacing it.
This happen back in 2004 so there were not that many E60s out there for BMW/dealerships to realize they had an issue with this.
