530D Tourer, 9 months old. Parked on the drive for 3 days, when I go to drive it I notice a crack in the front screen.
Crack starts from the edge of the 'A' pillar half way up and runs horizontally across the screen for about 5 inches before tailing off.
No signs of impact whatsoever. temp varied between -1 to +10c during the period with no rapid changes.
Crack was definately not there when I parked it.
Anyone know of any history with screen / fitting faults? or stress fractures?

I had the exact same thing happen to me had the RAC Windscreen look at it and they said it was a stress fracture, took the car to my local BMW Dealer and they couldn't find any stone chips but refused to do it under warranty as they claimed stress fractures in screens happen in the first month of car ownership only...

I have had two replaced already as well! Granted, I believe they were hit with flying road debris, rock or something... But it sure seems to be a pretty brittle windshield! I have changed the windshield twice now within one month of each other.

I heard a lot of about windshields cracking - I just got a 2004 E60 - am I in the "risk group"? the car has 10K miles and the windshield looks great...

Mine is a 2005 with 13000 mls. The screen was perfect, there is no obvious reason for the fracture, the car was parked on the drive.
The dealer suggested temperature change.............Hell, this is SW England not not Arizona !
