Anyone had any luck getting the dealer to cover replacement of the window trim? So far my dealer is saying it's an environmental issue. Which I?m not buying since they say the trim over the window is the same as the strip along the bottom of the window. The strip along the bottom looks perfect the one over the windows is so foggy looking its hardly silver now. I?m interested in the Shadow line trim but I?m not sure of the part numbers or a source for a good price if this will not be covered I won?t be buying the chrome version shadow line is way better looking. Just had to dish out 4K in unexpected repairs to my truck so I?m trying to save a little coin and keep the ride nice. I'll try to add some pic's but I'm not sure how much it will show up in a photo.

Nope they won't cover it under warranty. If you want new trim contact Gary at BMW of Newport or just paint it like I (and others) did. Good luck.

Did you remove it to paint or just tape everything and spray it in place on the car? I really want it to be shadow line. I was just up in Newport RI and didn't think of stopping there.

I would remove to paint.. why risk getting it on the car if the tape doesnt hold up..

I removed it, it's much easier that way - cuts the prep time down a lot. The key is good prep i you want a good paint job, sanding and cleaning are very important. The results are well worth all the prep and patience - trust me.

I've searched for how to remove the trim without destroying it and I'm not seeing to much about this. Is there any trick to this or will it come off with no issues?

Here is the one I followed:

And here is the results (I wanted gloss black trim like the M5):

If you want some chrome trims for cheap, then pm me. I got a set (used) for you. You can either paint it matte black or just replace your old ones with this.
