I think it's a very simple ... Europe's roads offer more of a challenge ... we have curves ... the US of A mainly has long straights with slow bends ... this translates to the need for more precise tight engineering.

It relates too racing to in some respects ... European race tracks tend to be a tad more difficult on cars than the ovals in the US.

California actually has some of the most challenging roads you'll ever drive. For example, much of Highway 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway) compares with just about anything you have to offer in Scotland. And FWIW, the US has many, many race tracks which aren't oval.

Merely an opinion of mine, having driven both sides of the pond ( not in Cali though so you may be right although i very much doubt it )

I know little of the Race scene in America, my apologies for that, following the F1 scene the only track i know of there is the brickyard which needed altering to accomodate the F1 cars due to them having been built to go fast around both left and right hand corners.

Well, you may well "very much doubt it", but as a Brit now living in California my experience is very different. Some of the roads here are phenomenal and are a match for any I have driven in Scotland - which is where I grew up. I also follow F1, and I have been to an F1 race at Indy - and can also confirm that the changes you misrepresent were actually the development of a full road course within the original oval track. Only part of the F1 track uses the oval (F1 is run clockwise unlike the US race series), much of it is run on the new course which is infield. The changes were nothing to do with "going fast around both left and right hand corners", and everything to do with building a new track, specifically for Indy and F1. You may also be interested to know that even traditional "oval" series such as NASCAR do in fact have road track races built in to the race calendar, including road tracks here in California.

Thanks for setting me straight there no apologies for my opinions though

If you ever get a chance, I recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway

The highway goes from several hundred feet above sea level to more than 6,000 ft. Outstanding!!
