Such a simple thing that even the oldest garmin units had and every other system I've used.

Why doesn't the nav system tell me if the destination is on the right or left side of the street? "Destination 300 feet ahead on your left side"

That simple, so that as I get close to somewhere that might not have great signage, I at leas know where it is. Do I need to park on the left, make a uturn etc..

I agree. That's a complaint I have with the NAV as well.

Interesting,

My satnav (Australian spec 2007 M5) tells me left or right when I get to the destination. Because we have a smallish population, we only have one map data supplier here who provides data to all manufacturers who have factory sat nav in their cars.

From what I know of the US, there are a few different suppliers to the OEM map data market, and maybe the one that BMW uses in the US doesn't include house numbers in the data stream, or maybe where you are doesn't have a standard house numbering scheme, where all even numbers are on the right of every street looking north or east etc.. .

You could also maybe try a newer map DVD, check with your dealer to see if your DVD is not the current edition. We have just changed to V13 here in Australia (the versions are country related), but who knows what version you guys are on........ V1,000,000 perhaps ????

The satnav in the X3 and the previous X5 (Both non I-Drive Vehicles) tells left or right side!!! Looks like we are going backwards in technology.

The Professional Navigation is definately a BIG step backwards from the older MK4 High Navigation. Have you seen the graphic display on the High!! You'll wonder why we has such a primative looking navigation system in such an expensive car.

What annoys me is that in the UK, you can buy a TomTom 910 that has a 20Gb hard-drive, with _global_ maps, bluetooth telephone connection, mp3 player, points of interests (inc camera alerts), etc etc all for about ?350. I just don't understand why BMW doesn't buy that technology and put it inside the i-Drive. Can you imagine having a 20Gb (or 60Gb for a few quid more) hard-drive built in to the car? With bluetooth so you can sit in your house and copy MP3s across, have global maps... maybe the F10 will have it eh?
