It can allways happen to every A/C. It happened on one of my previous rides too.
Allthough I agree with 530E60NL that it is a little early...
Maybe you can get rid of the smell by putting the A/C on max at startup for about 30 seconds to a minute.
If this doesn't help any longer than one day you have to desinfect it.

There were posts previously taht recommended you put it on Max for at leat 10 minutes and it should clear it up. If not then go tot BMW and they can clean it.

I was told that spraying Lysol into the A/C intake would generally kill the bacteria. I'm not certain of the correct procedure, but if memory serves, the A/C should be on at full-blast for a few minutes, the Lysol should then be sprayed and the car should be shut off shortly thereafter. I'm not sure on the exact procedure, but I've got a buddy who did this to his M Coupe recently to get rid of the odor.

If you put the A/C system on recirculate and put the air on max while spraying Lysol near the intake vent under the dash, this cleans it up as well.

I just got my car back. Droped it off in Nice after European Delivery on July 3rd.

It smells like a wet dog in the car. I think my dealer is a $#^%*&^% for delivering this car to me like this if there is a service bulletin to this known problem.

My wife wants a new car from BMW since this one stinks like a rat died in it.

Where is the A/C intake? Driver's side or passenger side.

Thanks,

Oliver

Yeah, mine stinks like a one-year old damp cloth in a closet. I max the AC for a few minutes and the next time I started the journey the smell is minimised. But if I forget to do it the previous journey, the smell comes back. It lasts for jus ta few seconds though.

Rudy, still waiting for your bulletin

(sorry for the bizzare word wrapping -- sometimes it does that and I can't seem to figure out why.)

I have not had to do it on my E60, but on my two previous E39 it was on the passenger footwell near the center of the car, in front of the center console. If you put the A/C on recirculate and the air on MAX (actually I think putting it on MAX automatically selects recirculate) then spray near the footwell, you will see it getting sucked up into the air intake.
The idea is not to soak the inlet but to let the aerosol get sucked into and circulate throughout the system.
