It comes on by default. BMW would have to reprogram the car to fix it. They won't. Auto on AC is one of the few things I dislike about the E60.

wud u guys believe me if i say throughout the yr i turn the ac on maybe 5times AT MOST. i just dont like it. i like the wind and my music playing a little louder then normal and its just a whole different feeling

My AC doesnt turn on... only the fan does... which i'm ok with... i usually manually turn off the AC a few block before i get to my destination and when i shut down the car i turn the fan onto the lowest setting and the next day it returns with the same settings.

Correct, there was a misuse of the word a/c. It is the fans that come on, but comes on to the set air temp, which tends to be in the colder sides/all the way to the left in my e60.
