You got to get that taking into the dealership.

8 MPG and now 11 MPG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is CRAZY. Something isn't adding up here. Either your math is wrong, on board computer is messed up, or you have a 16 yo kid taking gas out of your tank at night to put into his or her car. I tend to think the later.

Even a mechanical issue I doubt would cause you to drop that far. Bad sensors, air filter, etc. etc. usually will only add up to a 2 to 5% drop in MPG. No way you should be getting less then 16MPG in a 530i. You should be more like 18MPG to 22MPG. Plus with a mechanical issue chances are your going to have a warning from the car that something is wrong.

Perhaps it's a re-badged ///M5.

Are you sure it's a 530i?

I get about 26 mpg on average in my 525. I can just barely see 31.5 mpg's on the highway and have seen as low as 20 mpg's with a heavy foot in the city.

I think I'm going to have to do a complete tune up to the car. I replaced the cabin air filter. Spark plugs aren't due till about another 12k miles. The engined was checked when I changed the brake pads and rotors last week. The one thing I'm noticing now is that my 530i doesn't accelerate like it used to. It usually takes a few seconds before it picks up and shift to the right gear. I just don't want to imagine how much a complete tune up to this car is going to cost me at BMW of Manhattan. Never done it before, since I got the car a year and a half ago. Has anyone done it? If so, how much was it?

You could also try a good local forgien repair shop. See what they say. Many of them will at least look at it for a flat fee (many will wave the fee if you have them repair it). Where as the dealer will twiddle his thumbs, charge you by the hour, and in the end say we'll have to get in there to really see what the problem is. By then they'll have already ring you up for $500, haven't really done anything, and then charge your left arm for the repair. Dealers have there place don't get me wrong but most just squeeze you to death on every little item. Everyone needs to make money but at some point enough is enough.

I'ts the steptronic 530i. I just recently got it up to 11 miles per gallon. Before it used to be 8 miles per gallon. I use the a/c occasionally because I'm in New York, so sometimes is hot and sometimes is not. But I really have to do something about this. Paying $4.60 a gallon of premium gas and having this problem is a real killer to my pockets.
NY NY or mainland NY? What is your average speed? If your at idle all the time or never getting into 5th or 6th gear, then you would probably get bad mpg. I wouldn't think that bad though. A/C really only makes a 1 or 2 MPG difference and if the car needs a tuneup that bad, then you would feel it in the gas pedal or smell it running rich at the exhaust.
