White smoke usually means coolant is getting into the exhaust - which is commonly caused by a failed head gasket.

Check your coolant level IN THE RADIATOR, not the overflow tank to see if its low.

OMG!!

First, WAIT FOR THE ENGINE TO COOL. Then open the radiator cap. If filled properly it should be just about full (a small amount of coolant may drip out). If you can't see any coolant and the radiator core is plainly visible then you are missing coolant.

Plase don't tell me the radiators in these cars don't have caps on them......

can't speak for the LCI version but my '06 V-8 does not have the radiator cap unless it's hidden somewhere underneath or on the side because I searched for it over the weekend when I replaced my water pump so if you happen to know where it is, please let me know.

Wow! I REALLY need to start looking under the hood more often

Normally, an expansion tank bleeds off excess fluid from the radiator when the pressure reaches a certain point. The pressure relief mechanism is actually built in to the radiator cap. So if there is no cap then what opens/closes to allow for the coolant to go in/out of the expansion tank?

I think the temperature sensor on one of the hose serves that purpose otherwise I do not see the point of having a sensor on the hose right before it attaches to the radiator.

When I refilled the expansion tank, I was wondering how can I be sure that the fluid is flowing through the radiator but I guess I-drive detects it somehow and also squeezing the 2 large hoses on both sides of the pump did confirm there were some hot fluid moving through the hoses.
