i am patiently trying to recharge my a/c but i think i plugged the recharge kit into the high-side port instead of the low-side port. and some genius said that you can't fit the kit onto the high-side port, even though when i connected it to the port that fit, it was at 200+ psi. so this leads me to believe that is in fact the high-side. ok, so i have a connection near the firewall, passenger side, and that one is what had 200psi. then there is another port in the very front, top, passenger side, near the very front of the car. the recharge kit was too small to fit that port.

ok buddies, so where is the dang low-side a/c port at? i have a 2006 530i, build 11/05. thanks in advance.

 

Engine and ac needs to be running to have low pressure in the low-side...


otherwise the low side and the high side equalize and have the same pressure.

He may not be a genius but he is correct. As mention before with the ac compressor off the low side will be high. If your compressor is not going on and causing the low side pressures to be low then you have other issues. With the engine running and the ac on, the center portion of the ac pulley should be spinning. If the low side is high and the compressor is spinning the compressor is not working or is about to grenade because it has too much refrigerant.

 

well that makes clear sense because when i first connected the gauge, it was reading 200+ psi, and then shortly thereafter, it was reading about 45 psi.

so what's the psi range for the a/c refrigerant supposed to be? thanks in advance.

 

I'm out of town but you should be able to look it up. it is based on the ambient temperature reading. There are charts out there. Google it.

Make sure you do not over fill as liquid will not compress.

i came up with psi answers from tons of people with totally different cars though.

 

Type of car will not differ much for psi readings. simple as looking at the ambient temp, the low side gauge reading, and a generic 134a chart for automotive ac. I'd hold your hand but my wife would kill me. Besides you are no where near me.
