Yup, it was a big moment for me and blackie. Almost exactly 4 years later (I bought it CPO with 35,000 from a proud M5 owner), and here I am! Taking pics of my odometer doing 50 on the highway. Haha.
Haven't had any serious problems since I've owned the car. A steering issue was covered under warranty, and I had to replace my control arms thanks to some NYC depressions, but other than that...happy. Especially after a decided to do the M5 umnitza package, quads, HID fogs, rear spoiler, and custom LED angel eye lights. I get looks all the time. And I did all of that with 85,000 miles on the car! Haha.
So, do I cross my fingers?!? I have new brake pads and plugs.
What else should I expect?
New clutch? When?
Tie Rods? I think there's a little play...
Struts/Springs/Shocks? I'm working with the originals still and have no complaints.

Anyone else out there with more miles than me that can weigh in?
Shot taken 7/25/10 outside of Newport, RI.

Just wondering... Is 100k not as bad these days as it used to be say 10-15 years ago? I would think with good maintenance and today's technology that cars would last longer? Plus, I heard while BMW's are expensive to maintain they are solid and expected to last.

I am at 103,000 Miles. How would you know that the auxiliary water pump is failing or failed?

What I plan to do at 100k miles (11,000 miles from now!) is change the water pump, hoses changed if needed (I've kept them oiled/lubricated and they look great still), expansion tank, coolant flush, brake fluid change, spark plugs, fuel injector cleaning, transmission fluid change, control arms, and have everything else looked over.

This will cost me about $2,500.

Mmm so all I need is a mechanic that will do a thorough look over and only suggest I maintain what needs to be maintained...
Any NYC or Boston suggestions?

Have any of you V8 guys had any major problems on your way to 100,000 miles? I just bought my 545i w/ 22,000 miles and am wondering if i should buy the CPO warranty

I would not do it considering the year of your car. Remember that CPO is *6 years or 100k miles... and the *6 years is from the "IN-SERVICE" date. So if your car was born on 11/04 your CPO warranty would expire on 11/10 even if you bought it today. They always fail to mention that to people... I wonder why?!!? You're better off with a solid 3rd party warranty that doesn't have that date restriction. Eithe way, I'd just set aside 1000 a year for maintenance. In 3 years you'll have 3,000 saved which should be plenty instead of spending it all at once on a 3rd party warranty which you might never use. Up to you.
