The new LED tail lights dhould be easily changeable. My guess you just have to buy an '06 tail light assembly and the rest should be plug N play, $400 Tops....I think

There was the same issue with the 3 series 2 years ago when they came out with LEDs. Unfortunately LEDs were not retrofitable. If you hooked them up, the car gives a warning that a bulb is out.

You just need to replace the light switch and have the car programmed and they work perfectly. All parts are in the kit

Why bother?? Well because like like most upgrades it enhances the look and in this case the technology from what we have. BMW should have had these lights ready for the '04 like they did for the 3 series coupe.
I also would have not thought that it would be necessary to re-program the idrive just for installing tail lights, but I am sure the dealer can do this pretty easy. This is a Mod I will for sure do and my guess it will cost about $400 installed, but that's just a guess.
Peace

i think that they will make the MY2006 come in March mainly because the new 3 series is coming out then and they dont want the 3 to steal sales from the 5, since it will have LED's etc. and the 5 won't. Then again it might be something else!

I think the guy who posted about the 06's coming in march is a little confused:
The 05's will coem with the R6 engine in march (or april... around there), but that won't make it a MY06
