Actually, '06 Models will be out early, starting with March '05 production.
For the 5 Series & the 3 Series, anyway....

I'm beginning to think this year business is stupid... the Year model is starting to become useless as it will mean absolutely nothing if they start MY06 in March 2005... its the beginning of 2005 and its called a 2006 car? I rather them stick with the correct year as cars will be considered 2005 once built AFTER Jan 1, 2005... all they're doing right now is shifting the build year from sept to Aug... why not keep it from Jan to Dec?

I couldn't agree with you more. Its a B.S. American thing.
My understanding is that in Europe, they don't pull this crap. As soon as January 1st comes along, you have purchased a 2005 model. Its that simple. I love our country, but screwing around with model years is just completely out of line.

Incidentally, the 5er and the new 3 get the new engines starting with March production, and we already know that the 3 will be a 2006 model. There was a memo on Centernet which specifically stated that both Series would get the new R6 engines.

NOT so. The Manufacturers close their production lines for retooling and the usual summer break in August. Then start them up for the new model year in September. Its been like this for many years. Just like the school year. German and Italian plants all operate this way. Ever seen an August production car?

we've been talking about this for quite a while now , and you must always research for AT LEAST a year prior to ordering any new car

the new E90 3er is a MY06, and it will be available in spring

and as for the E60's, dealers are even acknowledging that the April builds will have the R6 as well as the Xi options, i dont know whether they bump up the MY to 06 or not...

My dealer told me that all R6 E60's (March production onwards) will be model year '06. Evidentily, BMW did not want two different '05 E60 530's out there....
