The push start button - how has this gadget actually advanced mankind?
Oh, and nowhere for my wife to put her handbag/purse/stuff

I thought the same thing about the push button start, but apparently, this makes the car much more difficult to steal. That was the reason that I was given by BMW.
And what is your wife doing in your car?! (j/k)

The thing which annoys me the most is the auto alarm indicator (that under a mirror). It is made from cheap plastic and definitely looks that way  .
I am a new E60 owner so give me time and I'll come up with something else shortly

Oh my goodness......I feel like a newlywed that just stumbled on to some old married people's chat room. Why is everyone hating on the E60?
Some I do agree with and there is always room for improvement, but most are very minor, BUT To be honest, some of the items just sound crazy!!!!
.........why the pushbutton?......So you don't need to use the key....not so you don't overcrank! I personally love not needing the key and all cars will soon be that way. And if the no key sounds ludicrous to you, I hope you didn't get the Nav system, because you probably love using the old maps that are jammed in the glove box!
.....and turning off the seatbelt ping.......are you crazy? Is it 1970 all over again? Do you also hate how kids where helmets now when riding bikes and the crazy thought of airbags in cars???

37 degree ice Alarm DONG....a silent visual alert is fine...
I would like a silent notification when the auto lights turn on and off.

The worst thing about the E60 is how the temperature controls have preset temperature numbers written around the dials. All other BMW models except the 6-series and Z4 display the temperature readout digitally.
I actually like that... a bit more classic IMO.

I really enjoy my car and can't say there is anything I would consider "stupid" about it....
The o/s mirrors could be a bit larger, but you get used to their size.
I really like the start/stop button and with CA, find it very useful. Prefer it to a key.
Cold temp chime is loud, but not a big issue either.
It's a GREAT car, no problems.

If you open the rear window just an inch or so, you'll dramatically reduce the amount of wind in your face...
