The 530/535d seems to be the enthusiasts choice, on this forum anyway, however I think in reality the popular choice in the UK is the tax beating 525d soon to be overtaken by the 520d.

Thanks for your votes

It would be interesting to see the official sales figures.......

I'm not convinced by the 520d but it's probably not as 'bad' as I think...

I followed a 2003 545 today for the first time since the E60 was launched so I realise its not a popular model what with ?1 a litre fuel costs so just wondered what's the most popular model in the UK. My guess would be the 525d followed by the 520i.

So what do you drive?

The 530d was what I've always wanted, it's faster then the 530i. Based on Auto gear box.
530i 530d
0-62 mph: 7.1sec 7.3sec
50-75mph: 10sec 6.7sec

Mine is a used car, with the spec I have. I just cannot find a 530d at a similar price. I'm talking at least GBP3000 more.

I think those are figures for the old 530i engine. The new N52 engine has 258 bhp and the automatic version of the 530i is quoted on the BMW website as having a 0-62 time of 6.7 seconds and a 50-75 time of 6.6 seconds.

The 50-75 time of 6.6secs is for the manual version as they don't show this type of figure for the auto

Ok but I would expect the auto without downshifting to do a pretty similar time to the manual.

In the 0-62 dash the 530i actually has the same time as the 535d - good for the traffic light racers amongst us. In gear though the 535d should more than have the measure of the 530i.

SKK,

True but the 530i auto is 6.7secs 0-62 and the majority will opt for auto. However I don't want to get into a diesel is faster than petrol debate as both cars have great attributes. If I had a 520i I would still love it equally

BTW what model do you have as you have no signature?
