My 'Dream' Car arrived in July .... I expected perfection from BMW .... I was wrong ... There is an extremely loud popping/knocking noise from the sunroof when it is in tilt mode ... now this does not happen all the time ... in fact it may only happen once a week ... it did not happen when the mechanic from my dealer took it for a drive I have recorded the noise on my mobile for my next visit ... Anyone else have this problem. Something else that I find annoying is that I find the car sluggish in 4th gear (80kmph) .. Not a nice car to drive at the moment ...

See this re sunroof. May be you have the same problem and it is easy to fix by your dealer:

I don't know much about diesel torque range maybe some diesel owners help you. They don't sell BMW diesels in North America . What engine rpm is 80km/H in 4th gear? Is this the first time you own a diesel?

Seems that issue is related to closing the sunroof from a tilt position ... my rattle occurs when it remains open ... 80km/h = 2000rpm approx just where the turbo kicks in .... my last car/jeep was a Landcruiser (Diesel) should have kept it!

The sun roof problem might be related... its the back of the glass making contact with the front of the water drain.

As for your whining... sorry for to be blunt but those are minor problems I've heard of problem that are much worse and people have whined less.

I'm not saying you cant whine... I do it at times... thats what the board is for, people will understand but man saying you shouldnt have gotten the car and saying BMW failed because it didnt produce a "perfect" car and then repeating the same thing over again in post#3 that you should have kept the Land Crusiser well I think you should have too.

Sluggish in 4th... I dont know either but its a 520. and 4th gear is pretty high. what RPM are you trying to accelerate at? 600rpms at 4th and flooring it? a M5 would be sluggish too in those situatuations

I dont see how complaining that you should have kept your old land rover or saying what's wrong with BMW or whatever you said "striving for perfection"

If you were "striving for perfection" you would ask and see how others can assist you so you can get the dealer to fix the problems you have not just bitch and complain.

All I got out of your post was that you dont like the car at all. It "was" your dream car and now its just junk to you and you havent even given the car a chance.

Top Dollar?? Ok i'm not commenting on that one.

Hi Dave congrats on your car. Look none of the cars are perfect below 200.000? but!!! for diesel you have to break her in nicely as mentioned in the manual. 2L engine is a nice one, small for the car but perfect! for crusing, my friend came with me to remap i to 200hp and now he did 245km/h in Germany, but this will only happen with a good remap and patience while braking in.

For your Sunroof problems, yes you are right, but hey do not please give up tell your dealer you have this problem, not your fault!!!! let them do it and if they do not want tell them that we normally do: " We did not buy the car for .... ? to have such problems!" good luck
