You guy's are killing me

I damaged her at less than 1MPH, can you imagine what I could do at 30MPH!

Just got back from the autobody shop. Being there made me feel a little better. The lot was full of smashed up Bimmers, most worse off than mine. Of note a 645 with a torn off front quarter.

The Damage : New trunk lid, new bumper. I'll be getting the $$ figure later. I have a $500 dollar deductable, live and learn I guess.

The paint chip on my hood: well the body guy had some interesting thoughts. First he expects to see lots of chips on the hood in the future, why? aluminum! Soft metal, and unfortunately more expensive to repair! He is recomending the "Ding Smith" the'll try to pull up the ping and he'll blend it in. In his words he hopes it works, he said I'm lucky it's black and that makes the blending easier. If it's too noticeable, for some people it may be fine but for me it may stick out like a sore thumb, repainting the hood would be next. He did say that whenever possible they like to keep the original paint, so option one will hopefully work.

Did he mention or did you ask about a clear bra and if that would make a significant difference in the chipping?

I did ask. He seems to like the idea but has some reservations. The jury is still out in his opinion on fading, it has'nt been out long enough to see the long term effects. He has seen some cheap versions that seem a little "thicker" and hold the dirt along the edges. It's also an asthetic issue in that some colors do show the bra more than others.

It would have prevented my paint chip, as JDN's pic shows the bra extends 41/2 ", my chip is 1" above right of the roundel. However it may not have prevented the dimple depending on the force.

I have no idea how it got there, I would have remembered a truck spewing rocks on rt. 3, I have a suspicion on who might have been driving it when it happenened, but for the sake of a continued happy marriage, I'll let it slide!

I am definately considering the bra, my friend has one on his ferrari, and although slightly noticable it beats obsessing over chips. My only hesitation is that this is a business lease and I'm not sure if I'll keep it at the end, love the car definately an option (will have lo-mi.) or trade for the V10

Didnt' really think about engaging the cruise control, but had to back up a very long narrow street for about a mile with no berms or turnaround opportunities. Glanced at the speedo as the revs were getting up there -- recollection is a little over 20 mph at about 4000 rpms.

I'd be happy if I had a friend that had a Ferrari!

After this discussion, I'm adding the clear bra onto my list. One for my 530, and one for the wife.

James: Make very sure you put the right one on the right patient, or they might not look quite right!
