What would you have Comfort Seats or Head-up display?
The HUD is very viewable under all lighting conditions. I actually have grown to like the NAV turn view without having to rely on voice or taking a look at the idrive map.
I also have the "sport" seats and they are very comfortable. I do wish in addition to heated, they were "cooled". But then, I'm a softie

Personally , both . Once you have comfort seats it's impossible to not have them, the HUD is a great feature and I ordered because my short vision is starting to get "fuzzy"

I have both. Very tough to have to give up either one. The HUD makes the E60 NAV way ahead of all other car companys. It keeps your eyes straight ahead, showing you speed, turning arrows and all other warnings. The comfort seats are exceptional in all aspects. If I really, really had to choose I would reluctantly choose the comfort seats. Now if comfort access was in the mix, I would toss that out the window.
I have both, I wouldn't want to give up either, If I really had to choose then it would be Comfort Seats but only just. The HUD with Nav and Stop/Go Cruise is great. I would hold out for a while and see if you can get both. I looked at used but ended up ordering new to get what I wanted.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm almost certainly going to be keeping an eye out for 2nd hand cars that are fully loaded so I don't need to make a choice but if I have to I think I'll go with the Comfort Seats as people say here, they are used 100% of the time. Thanks for all the help and quick replies :-)

Hi,
If you ask people who have HUD would they buy another 5 without it, hardly any would say yes. None of the owners I know see it as a "gimmick",but a very handy safety tool that minimizes distraction.
Once you've driven a car for a while with HUD, another car without it is , frankly,a pain in the arse.
It's a bit like power steering .When that was first introduced many people thought it was an uneccesary impediment to the driving experience. But now how many of us would be comfortable driving a car with no power steering?
I voted neither , as I wouldn't consider buying a 5 now that didn't have comfort seats and HUD both.
Sadly the comfort seats are only an issue because the standard ones are so bad ( cf the better standard seats in the 3 series). If you have to drive more than 5 miles a day ,the comfort seats are compulsory.
If I was in your position ( ie never having used HUD before) ,I would if forced to choose, go for the comfort seats, as they affect the whole driving experience.
HOWEVER,most people who order the HUD usually order comfort seats as well,so that combo shouldn't be that hard to find.
Hang tight , and the right car WILL come along. It worked for me, and I was almost ready to put a deposit down on a brand new car .
Good luck

Confort seats, as they are muc h more comfortable then the standard seats. plus, head up display is more of a fancy thing to show off with, The seats are for comfort. You use them on a daily basis
