I see a lot of people considering "the next size down", such as 3er or A4/S4. My wife has a 3er, which is a great car, but I've just got so used to the size of the 5er on the inside. When I ordered my first 5er, after 3 (three) 3ers, the dealer told me I would really struggle to come back to a 3er after driver the 5er... and so far he's right!

I regularly have people in my car, private and business, which probably means I think about having a spacious and comfortable ride, especially with others on board. When it was just me in the car, it was all about the driving experience and didn't care about the concept of passengers! I some times wish I had a 3er again because its such a great drive, but it just feels so cramped after being in a 5er... and no, I haven't put on weight since I had my 3ers

Anyone else struggle with going back to a smaller car after the 5er or is it like everything else, you just get used to it over time?

(As you may have already guessed, my short list is a 5er or a 3er !!)
I love how big the E60 is. Its not huge but its not small. IMO i think the 7 series is way too big. But i want an E92 just because im 19, single and because i hate driving everywhere because i have the nicest car out of all my friends

My 530d is starting to get too many miles on it, so I am thinking of buying a new car. I am really happy with my car, so maybe it will be another e60 but I am open for other suggestions. What are you guys planning on buying next?

With each passing car I strive for lower weight and stiffer suspension.

1st choice.. 911 Carrera Cab (997) probably CPO
2nd choice.. E90 M3 cabrio M-DCT probably CPO or finance
3rd choice..E60 M5 CPO (expect everything I love about my 550 with more edge and attitude)

BTW, I'm looking to be a 1st time dad in 6 weeks...Yearning for a more fun car already...?

I already bought mine. An 2008 M3. I sold my wife's 545i, she got my 550i. First Impressions of the M3, vs the 5? M3 still has 3 series stuff in it. Funny as I spent more on the M3, for less content. For example. Manual Steering Wheel Adjustment, No Heated Steering Wheel. More Manual stuff in the seats as well, such as thigh bolsters. The Novillo leather doesn't breathe as well as the Dakota leather in the e60. But, on the positive, the M3 is much more aggressive and sportier than my 5, Duh, right. I am happy with the switch, but I am also happy I can drive my trusty e60, anytime I want...

Will keep both cars for quite a while. I am very happy with both!

Doesn't the M5 weigh +/- 4200 lbs.?? And I don't know that the M5 has a stiffer suspension than a 550i Sport. I've driven an M3 with and without the dynamic suspension and both feel "softer" than mine; even with the M3's suspension set to max. Maybe it's the weight.

You noticed the same things I did when I tested a new M3. ///M car or not, it's still a 3-series and you give up a LOT when stepping down from a 5-series to an M3.

+1, No matter how they badge it, it still is a three, as my wife likes to constantly remind me. I would have seriously considered the M5, but I couldn't justify spending another 20K. I think it would have been worth it, mind you, I just couldn't justify it in my mind.

Next Time... ;-)

I honestly don't think it makes sense to buy a 2009 E60 when BMW is changing the shape of the 5 series next year...That's like buying a brand new Audi A4 right now.
The new Audi A4 is just born, what do you mean?
I see tons of them on our streets.

The new 5-series (F10) will be available in US in the spring of year 2010,
and that's more than 1,5 years away.

I will personally wait for the September 2010 production (MY '11)
