I like the phrasing of the question, especially the word "amazing".
Here's what you need to make it amazing (get a couple of extra jobs to get it done fast
):
1. 20 or 21 inch rims. You'll have to go fully custom to make it "amazing", so look to iForged, DPE, HRE, Klassen and so on. They'll obviously need to be color matched to the rest of the car to every last detail - inner barrels and all. Be thorough and it'll look amazing.
2. You'll need a body kit and most likely a drop. Coilovers is the way to drop - either H&R or KW will accomplish that.
3. Personally, I think no e60 looks "amazing" without a "roof job" - either paint or vinyl, but of course you will have to color match it to the rest of the car in a smart way.
4. You're gonna have to customize that interior of yours - I'm talking a full two tone job with a whole suite of features.
5. If you really want the car to BE amazing - not just look amazing - you'll have to pony up a little dough for power mods. Thankfully, 530 doesn't really have THAT much potential, so you'll be limited to Dinan Throttle body, RPi scoop and exhaust, short throw shifter kit (if you have manual), maybe a few other minor mods, unless you wanna pay 4-5 grand for a supercharger kit, which is kinda dumb since you can get an N54 engine for about that money - already twin-turbo'd from factory.
Key to making a Bimmer look good is to mod it so that it looks like it came like that from the factory, btw, so keep that in mind. You'll have to decide on your color scheme rightaway before you do anything and match everything you get to that scheme (IMO blue looks good with graphite and white
).
EDIT: last but not least, you'll need a set of M5 mirrors
