If you use the bmw "build your car" you can see how options affect lease price. They don't ammortize the full cost of the option and all are different percentages. This gives you a good idea how much bmw thinks they will be worth.

Funny thing is that the M-Aero kit residualizes very poorly, but I think it will help alot in re-sale value.

I disagree -
It doesn't seem like the E39 5 Series' with M bodykits had better resale value compared to the same car without the M bodykit.

I see a zillion E60's in NYC everyday and I have yet to see one with the M kit. Perhaps the bodykit will be rare here and its scarcity will lead to higher resale value?

It does depend a lot on market - and fashion !

Absence of some kit can make a car tough to sell on - eg cloth (as opposed to leather) seats are are real downer in the UK (except on very low end models). Nav and Xenon I suspect will rapidly become must haves for anything 530d upwards.
I suspect, but have no proof, that things like better sound and body packs may help sell faster, but not make much in value.

Colour can be a big thing too - white may be cool (literally and fashion wise) in some countries, but resale death in the UK. Me too boring silvers and blacks are the quick sale option, blue and green eccentric but still saleable.

Good point. And, I think percentages are what are pertinent--probably what the topic-starter was asking about given his phrasing. Anyway, my response dealt with percentages. It's pretty obvious that the sport package would retain more absolute value than, say, the cold-weather package. But, what's important is option, and option component, percentage "value" retention if trying to maximize eventual sales price/cost.

Yes, he did--on another thread. I always think of selling when buying. There is little cost and no other disadvantage to doing so. I think most think at least about how well the cars being considered hold their values when buying--even if value-holding is not a dominant criterion.

1. Leather interior
2. Xenon
3. Metallic paint
4. Navigation

In addition, these are extras that will not lead to any additional costs in a future ownership, as e.g. the Dynamic Drive will.
