My Ride: In the process of buying the right 2006 530i

BMW allows a driver to choose his/her options from a wide variety of selections. Some people like this, some do not. I know that options can be very subjective. Each person has his/her preferences. But, what I would like to know is from a financial standpoint, which options retain the most value over three years? My guess is the following:
In order of retaining value
Automatic
Premium Package
Sport Package
Navigation
Cold Weather Package
Rear Seat Fold down
Premium Sound
Comfort Access
Comfort Seats
Park Distance Control
Rear Seat Air Bags
Sirius Satellite Radio
HUD

You might try going to KBB or Edmunds and enter, for example, a 2002 545i or a 2005 545i and see which options, or components of opitons, appear to be most valued. Maybe you could find out which colors are more highly valued too. But, my gut feel is that the options from your list that would retain the highest value percents are automatic, premium package, navagation, premium sound, and sport package.

Dang... thinking of selling before buying!? Didnt you ask what color has the highest re-sale vaule too?

Buying off the lot would prob give a good resale value as dealers spec and orders a lot of their cars with optios and colors to be sold very fast / easily they dont want them on the lot!

you may get more if you have these:

Nav - I do not have but it is not that important
HUD
xenons
dynamic drive

or x-drive
L7
rear fold. seats
heating
for that big car PDC

later on night-vision and cameras

M pack of aftermarket
and/or wheels (if you have ACS or Hamann you get a nice price for that anywhere.)

I think the Premium and Sport package will retain the most value in your car.

Premium adds leather seats, 4-way power lumbar support, and the Poplar grain wood trim. It adds other things as well, but are less significant (i.e. 3-button universal garage door opener, lighting package).

Sport will get you bigger wheels and tires, 12-way power seats, active steering, sport suspension, active roll stabilization (ARS), and less significant is the shadowline trim.

I would consider these the bare essentials in this class of car. Try selling your e60 without these two packages and you may be "stuck" with it longer than you want.

A car such as E60.. i think options like Navigation, Automatic Transmission and Sport package are the ones that really retain it's value..
