Hi everyone, I have been screening on this post for a few months now. I just want to know what brand/weigh of oil do you use? I'm a Mobile1 fan, I use 5W-30 for my lexus, and 10W-30 for my S2000. This is my first BMW 2006 530i, and i read the manual and it suggest 5W-30, but I also read on this site that drivers are using 0W-30. I drive my car pretty hard, put it in DS mode when possible, and I live in Sacramento CA and weather can be 30's in winter and 100+ in summer. BMW manual recommend 5W-30 API SH or or higher, I looked at the Molbil1 and it show API-SM, it it safe to put it in the BMW? Should I use 0W-30, 5W-30 or suggestion? And how often should I change the oil 3K, 5K, 1 year? oh! and how do I reset iDrive after I changed the oi? Thanks for your response. Sorry I'm a newby to BMW, love it so far ...

Engine oil has been discussed many times in past. Do a search for "Engine Oil" and you will find a lot of useful info.

Since you love M1 so much then go w/ M1 European Car formula of 0w-40.
It's BMW approved.

I personally go w/ German Castrol 0w-30 because I found a good deal at Autozone.

Don't just buy any 5w-30 at Walmart or other retailers as these are not approved for BMW long life oil change.

You said you drive hard the car or revving high... Use M oil (10W60 Lubro Moly that uses all BMW M) but can be applicable on non-m cars. My car uses it for years! Very satisfied with this. That oil is expensive but worthy

I change it every 15000km or 8000 miles suggested.

Be careful. Not just any Castrol.
