Hi everyone, I have been screening on this post for a few months now. I just want to know what brand/weigh of oil do you use? I'm a Mobile1 fan, I use 5W-30 for my lexus, and 10W-30 for my S2000. This is my first BMW 2006 530i, and i read the manual and it suggest 5W-30, but I also read on this site that drivers are using 0W-30. I drive my car pretty hard, put it in DS mode when possible, and I live in Sacramento CA and weather can be 30's in winter and 100+ in summer. BMW manual recommend 5W-30 API SH or or higher, I looked at the Molbil1 and it show API-SM, it it safe to put it in the BMW? Should I use 0W-30, 5W-30 or suggestion? And how often should I change the oil 3K, 5K, 1 year? oh! and how do I reset iDrive after I changed the oi? Thanks for your response. Sorry I'm a newby to BMW, love it so far ...
After the first oil change I paid my dealer to reset the oil service warning as I was informed that it could only be done by connection to the diagnostics computer.THIS IS NOT TRUE.Having changed both Cabin filters (Mahle LAK197/s, ?29 for 2),I had service overdue warnings for oil and microfilter so I searched this forum for reset information but it was not clear if this worked for the start button models.
I decided it was worth a try and within 10 minutes both were reset.
Am I glad that I registered!

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.
I use Mobil 1 0W-40, let me explain
You need to find an oil that is ACEA A3 certified & that is BMW Long Life (LL - 01) certified.
Mobil1 ow-40 meets both of these requirements, so does the castrol ow-30 european. Don't just buy a regular 5w-30 at the store, it's usually just ACEA A1 certified.
Google it, there's a lot of information about this.
BTW, the ACEA A3 & BMW-LL 01 labels can be found on the back of the bottle
