My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.
My dealer is Dinan aurthorized and I think they are a little more performance orientated than most. Mine was the first SMG E60 they sold and everyone there thought it was cool. They have not seen many since though.
I just read a Car & Driver article comparing a MB E65, Audi S6 and a real 6-speed (non-SMG) M5. The M5 came in last place. C&D did not like the 6-speed.

My Ride: BMW 530i SMG M Aero + SportPack HUD RFLAT XEN LOGIC7 NAVI PROF COMFORT SEAT Refulllllllllllll :)
I think that the SMG is a gearbox that don?t let BMW good bussiness results.. The average user like more the easy and no think Steptronic, The SMG is for the "advanced" driver
So I think is better for me, because my car could take more resale price, but in the future could be a problem get another BMW without the pleasure and sportivity of SMG gearbox.
Greetings.

Just wanted to remind everyone that I am STILL VERY, VERY PISSED OFF....
Keep your chin up dude! There's nothing you can do about it. Most people just don't "get" the SMG concept and you really can't blame BMW for making a business decision that suits the masses, I guess.
One thing seems very clear, there are people who are passionate about their SMG and there are people who are passionate about their old-fashioned manual. The problem is that there's way more of the old-fasioned manual people out there than there are SMG guys. I think the new sport auto might be a good idea (if it works as described) because it will still give the SMG types a similar feel but it will allow the automatic types to have some fun that they might not ever have with a Steptronic. The old-fashioned manual people aren't going to be switching to an auto box any time soon and since there are enough of them out there, BMW is still offering it to them to keep them happy (they learned that lesson the hard way when they first announced the M5 as an SMG-only car...)

Yeah, I just hope it doesn't happen because someone got their feet tangled up in all those crazy, old-fashioned pedals!
Velcro shoes.
