What to look for when buying a 06' BMW E60 525I w/43k miles ?

I'm new to E60's.... any info is greatly appreciated.

How reliable are these cars ? vs E39's

Common problems ?

What look for as far as

- motor
- drivetrain
- suspension
- cooling system
- maintenance

Since I just bought a used 545i with 52k miles, I will tell you what I regret.

1) Look at the brochure from that model year. (available on the net). Check what features are standard. Make sure your car has all the features that it's supposed to have!
2) check the windshield trim against a new car if one is available.
3) drive over uneven pavement. does it make any unusual noise?
4) Of course, look under the car for any signs of dripping fluid. Also this car has an underside that's almost completely enclosed, look for any damage to those panels.
5) check along the edges for problems with body panel fit. make sure all doors and moulding align.
6) Open/close all doors, windows, moonroof.
7) Ask for all documentation available.
8) are all the keys available?
9) Are the tires/wheels the correct size? Check all four.
10) Look at the car in daylight, but in the shade if possible.

since the BMW warranty expires at 4yrs. or 50k miles and the car is at 47k miles......does anybody know how much a BMW extended warranty cost ? and how long its good for ?

 

Get the after market warranty. Go to your dealer of choice and ask them what warranties they take. They take more than just their own. Probably Mercury or GE or some others. Compare theirs against the others.

A factory warranty, love my 545i but wouldn't own an E60 w/o a warranty...
