Hi Guys,
I was at the car park yesterday when i saw a 520d/530d? which looked like a 07 ish kind of car. the thing is when he unlocked his car, his angel eyes, eyebrowns and rear lights came on.
I have a 2005 525i and was wondering if a computer upgrade at bmw would provide me that function. Also I have been looking at screen shots of other bmw business navigation screen and they look different to mine too. when they have a phone connected there is a signal strength bar. All i get in mine is an antenna sign. I have been advised by my mechanic to not get an upgrade at the dealer unless i see something wrong with the current software. =(

Hey bud. Looks like you're not new. Look around the board and read up.

But to quickly answer you, the person has a LCI vehicle, and that is a Welcome Light feature. (Unless it's a late production 2006 and enabled via coding).

The only way you can get that is if you upgrade to a new Light Module, and have it coded to activate the feature.

As for the iDrive. You're probably comparing CCC to CIC. You can do this retrofit, just be ready to spend a good few thousands of dollars.

Lastly, if your TCU is capable, your bluetooth can be enabled by the dealer or someone that can code via NCSExpert.

I tend to agree with your mechanic. If nothing is wrong with your car, why mess with it (since there has been reports of upgrades complicating things).

how much does a light module cost? and typicaly, how much would a dealer charge to program?
also, what else will the new light control module allow you to do? turn off drl?

Among other things been discussed before the new LCM/LMA module will allow (w/ proper coding) the AE as the DRL:

the result:

not to mention soft on/off glow LCI style welcome lights ...

Light modules are about $300 or so new. Quite honestly, unless the item is guaranteed to be working, otherwise I would not buy it used.

As for programming, it really depends on the dealer. I wouldn't be surprised that the minimal cost is at least $150.

Just a note: This feature in LCI cars only works with the headlight switch preset to "auto".

i know this probably has been discussed before, but can the power to the mirror lights be tapped and ran to the front and rear ligths, with diodes to prevent voltage from going back when the lights are normally on?

Yes. Other lighting such as footwell, dome lights, etc. are fine as well. Though I would only advise it if your bulbs are all replaced with LED since the power load would be higher.
