The M5 handles better, but if you added 260 more pounds to the M5 it wouldn't handle as well as before.
This is why I'm on a diet. Its the only way to make my 530 faster.

But which car would handle better if a Republican, atheist, lesbian (who wants to get married and had been artificially inseminted) was giving birth in the back seat? Obviously something should be done with the umbilical cord blood, but her parents are both illegal immigrants. 535 or 550?

Drive a C63 AMG and you'll find that yes, you're not quite right in your assumption. It's not your AMG of old - it's far from the classic AMG models of days gone by where a monster engine was mismatched to a mediocre chassis.

In fact to show how bad the handling is, the RS4 which is MUCH slower in a straight-line than a C63 was only a few tenths slower around the track. Meaning that the RS4 was able to out-handle the wayward C63

Car and Driver's original E60 test of the 530i Sport with the Dunlop RFTs produced .90g on the skidpad. I have never seen an equal or higher test figure for an E60 since.
I enjoy this setup on my car - it's a lot of fun.

Oh yes the C63 is a phenomenal handler...It was ONLY 5 (FIVE) seconds off the pace of an M3 around a 2:30 track.
AMG has come a LONG way to close the gap to only 5 seconds.

So which is it? Does the M5 handle as badly as the C63? Or does the C63 handle as well as the M5?

was it the same test driver for the ring??? they tested "good" GTRs around the ring faster than the Porsche GT/turbo??? and then the Porsche test driver was faster around than the GTR- you're the Porsche expert, which one is faster round the ring???
I think the 535i would be better around the twisties, but the same around normal bends as the V8,
we had a drive last week with a 545i in our midst, was about even stevens with 525 and 535i
Mike one of our E90 buddies has a lowered 2 door 335i on bbs wheels (now selling to get a GTR)
and a stock 4 door M3 on n wheels, which is slightly heavier, for handling he says that they are
nearly the same, but M has a slight upper hand.
so you can't compare an M car with normal heavier M suspension BMW cars, cos the M always wins.

It might interest you to know that the C63's fastest recorded lap time at the Nurburgring is 8:13. Which happens to be the exactly the same time as the fastest recorded lap by the E60 M5...
So which is it? Does the M5 handle as badly as the C63? Or does the C63 handle as well as the M5?

Nurburgring lap times are not gonna be as accurate as the video I posted above anyways. The cars are driven by different people, in different conditions, in different temperatures at the Nurburgring. The video I posted above had the M3, C63, and RS4 all driven on the same day, in the same conditions, BY THE SAME DRIVER. It doesn't get anymore fair than that.

Why are you comparing a 3800lb Sports sedan C class to a 4000+lb BMW 5 series? Why not compare apples to apples...The C63 Competes with the M3, the M3 is faster. The E63 competes with the M5, the M5 is faster.

Fact is, based on the best recorded times, the C63 did the lap as quickly as your car (and both cars recorded a more than respectable time). Both laps were, incidentially, recorded by the same driver - although admittedly on different days.
Someone else implied in an earlier post that AMG cars are poor handlers, offering nothing other than torque and straight line speed - my post simply presented the C63 as a counterpoint.
