I know this has been talkeda bout-and I do not want to go back there but rather spurred on by a recent post on the fact that the v8s have different spring rates and shock settings due to larger weight. So do these adjustments eliminate any disadvantage in weight there would be on a sport model.

Cause I know 4600 amg mercs can handle amazingly so I know with the right setup, weight is much less an issue.

I had thought the sport suspenions was set up the same for both i6 and v9 prior tho this recent thread

+1 on the V9, if it exists, then I would say the I6 would handle better because at least the engine is BALANCED!!

I'm no car expert, but I would think BMW knows how to setup proper suspension based on weight. Near my job I take this 90 degree turn around 45 mph that should be taken @ no more than 20-25 mph in normal cars. My 550i stays flat and level and asks for more. I'm doing things that I never thought I would do in any prior car I've owned.

I think the i6 cars might handle a little better if you mean "getting around a corner 4% faster on a race track." Lighter weight, slightly better balanced.

The V8 cars get where they're going faster in the real world, though.

it would be great to get a 535i and 550i together and try them against each other. anybody ever done that?

Wait, I thought the question was about naturally-aspirated I6 engines. If we're talking about BMW twin turbo I6s, I want to change my answer to the I6. I like V8s for the simplicity, but the turbo I6s are spectacular engines, especially after they are tuned....

There is no doubt that a 535 with one of the more powerful ECU reflashes can produce over 400 bhp which is certainly more powerful (and therefore faster) than my 550's 360 bhp.

Of course, there is no substitute for the sound of a V8 and its very linear power curve. The stock 335 that I loaned recently was definitely faster than my 550 0-60 but its top end and highway passing power did not compare to my 550. And the engine note, of course, was not in the same league as my 550's V8.

But for pure speed, a 535 with a good ECU reflash is faster than a stock 550.

That's a fantastic idea! You should start a thread! Novelty is a virtue.
