I drvie a 530i and normally use 95 RON normal unleaded pertrol as the fuel price has gone up the roof. GBP60 a tank. :'( According to BMW owner's handbook, it is recommended to use Premium plus (RON 98) unleaded. So I've tried the Premium Plus for the last few weeks (leave the tank nearly empty and then refuel so I'm not mixing with the lower grade), I'm running on the 2nd tank now but still didn't feel any different in terms of power or fuel consumption.

Is it me or is my engine not big enough to make the difference?

Us the gas grade recommended in the manual. It's that simple. For my 545i it's 91 octane (premium here in the US).

Never anything but 91+ in my 545i. I wish I could get Sunoco.
