I like the way iDrive allows me to fine-tune the car's settings just to my liking.

I find it distracting, though, to change radio stations or Sirius satellite streams in iDrive while driving. BMW developed iDrive to reduce the array of buttons on instrument panels. Nonetheless, it would be an improvement to have buttons for presets on the instrument panel

I've had no problem whatsoever using the iDrive system on my '05 530i. Like the fact that I can "personalize" the car to suit my preferences. To accomplish this same capability with switches and controls would turn the dash into a 747 cockpit.

Why not scroll through your presets using the steering wheel button. I actually like rotating the I-drive puck to go through my FM presets. It reminds of those radios of old with vacuum tubes in them. Never mind..... Most of you probably never seen one.

Once I discovered (from a post here) that holding the iDrive button down (toward Entertainment) returned you directly to your last selection, I became a total convert.

Does anyone know of any other tips or shortcuts?

same here - once you know that it makes a lot of difference.

Centerpiece of our living room is an old Philco console radio. Heard it playing in an old furniture store in Cripplecreek, CO. Bought it on the spot and shipped back to Florida. Still plays, although if a tube ever goes out

Oh and iDrive - great. Between setting steering wheel buttons, existing buttons, and VR everything is at the ready. WHen I get the upgraded CIP I expect my two favorites (SAT and Aux) to be more useable as well. Scoll thru presets now in SAT and FM so no problems here. I think I'll like the additional NAV icons and I won't miss loosing any real-estate to these and make iDrive even more useful.

Love the iDrive!

I do however bypass it with voice commands most times...

iDrive does rock! I think there are quite a few people out there that just don't like the technology advancements, and don't like change. It's ashame!
