Hi dudes,
I have a question about the 530d. If the car was registered in the UK in July then do i get the M52N or the M52N2 engine....
presumably the N2 is better but according to realoem.com july is the only month that they didnt put in the N2. (previous months have it and months afterwards have it)
But then the car was regged in july so what is the most likely engine that it will have in it? (presumably BMW didnt build in the same month it was registered...??)
If anyone has any more info on the differences between the two id be greatful.
Regards,
JayJay

What kind of performance figures am i looking at for the 218ps engine?
I just looked in whatcat and was astonished to find out that a 525i m sport has a higher top speed and is faster from 0-60 than a 530d m sport.
(525i M sport 7.5 seconds 0-60 and just a touch under 150 for top speed)
(530d m sport was 7.9 0-60 and just over 140 top speed..)

I can assure you the above figures are realistic,

231PS 530d is 6.8s/7.0s
525i (218PS) is 7.5s/7.9s
Top speed for all of them is around the 150mph mark.

Autocar which I believe is a sister magazine of Whatcar? gets 7.2secs 0-60mph, 19.4sec 0-100mph, top speed of 157mph, midrange 30-70mph in 7.0secs and 50-70mph in 4.2secs. This may be for the automatic version tested on 02/09/03.
For the 525i tested on 06/07/04 they get 9.0secs, 23.6secs, 136mph, 8.6secs and 5.0secs.

Those figures are for both the 'old' engines? 218PS 3.0d and 170PS 2.5i? The 2.5i had quite a boost with the aluminium engines.
