hey i tend to leave my car in d for most the time but have been playing around with ds mode. What difference does this make to the car other than manual gear changing?

Are you real?

Try to use the Steptronic (+ is up - is down).

Enjoy!

Do a search on here and you'll find this topic has been discussed many times before. In short DS stands for Drive Sport and if you shift the steptronic shifter over the gate into DS mode from the normal D mode, the gearbox will give you a more aggressive shift pattern where it will hold onto lower gears for longer to let you have more acceleration power. You don't have to manually shift in this mode either so you basically have three gearbox modes: -

normal D mode with comfort shifting at lower RPM's
DS mode with auto shift at higher RPM's
DS manual mode where you can change gear by shifting the selector forwards and backwards.

i do use the manual change sometimes, but it changes anyway if you leave it! so it has no other benefit other than to change gear yourself?

It's an auto box so it will always change gear itself if you are over revving the engine. The electronics take over as you approach the rev limiter to prevent damage to your driveline. You should see a real difference in acceleration feel when in DS mode as opposed to D mode.

the noticeable difference between D and DS is huge. I started to drive only in DS mode and the car feels like it has 50HPs more as to drive in D mode

Actually I have the feeling that the DS mode is much more responsive to the gas pedal

As the automatic gearbox is a learing one, it will deliver the response you driven at for the last hour or so.

When you put it in DS mode it will automatically be in the sport mode.

One should feel the differance.
