My Ride: 2008 BMW 550i Sport
Model Year: 2008
Engine: N62
I too was torn between the 535i and 550i, but the thought about dealing with potential HPFP issues, and the fact that the V8 is pretty solid and the sport package already has the Mtech kit, etc...and there was no looking back at the 535i. There are many on here that own a 535i and either haven't had issues with the HPFP or don't care because they have an extended warranty, but i for one, have no time or patience to deal with the dealer on a regular basis. Sure the V8 gets less mpg, but over the course of the year, how much more is it really costing me...maybe avg an extra tank of gas per month? Not to mention, if I got the 535i, I'd be tempted to mod it to a point (body kit, wheels, etc) where I could've just bought a 550i in the first place, and not have worried about mods.

My Ride: SOLD...Jet Black 2008 550i M Sport with SAT, black interior. RPI exhaust and air scoop, 35% huper optik tint all around, CF roundels, flat black kidneys, Springfield Armory XD-40 jet black in glove box, charcoal filter removed.
Actually, there was this one "tiny" thread by Iceman about the N62 engine and ALL BMW V8's - go through his posts with a fine comb and you'll find it. If I'm not mistaken, the essence of the problem was in the gasket that is between the engine and the oil sump (correct me if I'm wrong here, please). Anyway, that was like the ONLY issue I ever remember seeing with the BMW V8s.
HPFP is a known issue and BMW has extended the warranty on all HPFPs to 100k miles/6yrs.

OP - yeah, 20 mpg combined - now this is totally according to the built in MPG computer and NOT my own calculations - take that for what its worth but thought I should point that out.

The reason I wound up with a 550 is that my confidence level with my 335 was very low. Had injector problems, fuel pump problems, transmission replaced and stumbles. I would NOT leave the metroplex with that car, no way, for fear of being stranded out in west Texas. Now I drive with a clear mind.
The power is there on the x35's, but as far as I am concerned, BMW can have it.
